Writing

Sorry that I haven’t written to the blog in awhile. One, haven’t had much to complain about, two, working on my fantasy story.

STOP FEEDING BLACK WOMEN BULLSHIT

This is an angry rant. If you don’t like bad words, you might not want to continue. However, I’ve had it to here with the bullshit stories about black women that I’ve seen popping up this week. I’ve put the text after the break as a precaution. Continue reading “STOP FEEDING BLACK WOMEN BULLSHIT” »

I Apologize for Not Being Tragic Enough

I wrote this last year on June 22, 2010. Apparently I was dealing with some of the same issues that I have struggled with recently. I do notice that my way of dealing with people has changed since that time.

Super Exhausted, But Still Writing

Yesterday was not a good day. Heck, the entire weekend was kind of a pain, but thankfully, the week is here. I have stuff to distract me from day-to-day life and goals to work toward. I am trying to save up around 225 dollars for a Wacom Bamboo tablet and a student version of Flash CS5 so that I can start to doing art and stuff for game development ideas that I have. This should be exciting and it’s nice to have something to spur me toward.

I am working on Dusk – Rebekkah today. I haven’t written on it in about a week now. I’d like to have something prepared for Thursday to share with my friends that are into reading my stuff. They are really supportive of me and I appreciate their feedback; my best friend Jessi is really the muse, I think. She’s who I write for.

Anyway, as far as what is being written this week: I need to take Rebekkah from being terrified at the party to being chosen as an assistant. I already have the beginning and end done; now just to get to scratching out the middle. Wish me luck!

My Trusty Dusty G1 is Stuck on 1.6 – No Google+ for me

I purchased my first Smartphone early this year, and since it was an out-of-pocket cost, it’s an older phone. It was the T-Mobile G1, which I had heard was all the rave. This morning I found out that maybe a few years ago it was, but not today.

This morning (yes, I’m a very early riser), I decided to install Google+ for Android on my phone. I rubbed the sleep out of my eyes and trotted over to my wireless modem. Since the antenna was snapped off, the poor thing can only cast a signal in my living room and not much further. I have finally managed to get it to hold a charge, and so for this momentous occasion, I would finally be able to check out Google+ on my Android phone! Hooray! I looked through the market and couldn’t find the app.

Okay, I said to myself. Maybe I just have to go online, scan a QR code, and voila, I’ll be done.

Not so much. Apparently Google+ only works on Android 2.1 and above.

My poor little G1 is on 1.6. Permanently, it seems, although there’s a mod for Cyanogen that could help me get it. There’s also a chance that my G1 could get mistakenly bricked – a term for turning my phone into a useless piece of tech. I’m not sure that I won’t mess it up, or that it won’t mess itself up. My phone is somewhat prone to dying randomly. I don’t think it will now that it’s fully charged, but that full charge doesn’t seem to last very long at times. Not sure what that is, though I’ve gotten a new battery to combat that.

Considering that I’ve had troubles (like the aforementioned ones) with this phone before, it might be an excuse to get a new phone finally. I don’t like to get new tech unless I absolutely need it, and to top things off this phone is unlocked (well, I have the code to do it now, anyway; not planning on switching from T-Mobile any time soon…). I have a laptop purchase that prevails over that, because while my eMachines T6532 that I bought in 2006/7 still functions, it’s not able to keep up with a lot of the games that I’ve purchased recently.

What kind of phone do you have? If your phone is an Android, what version is it running? And what’s the oldest piece of tech that you have that you still use today?

Retooling and Finding Focus

I’ve been really thinking hard about the direction I want my career to go in, and I’ve had to make a couple of decisions that make me somewhat sad, but push me further toward my goals…

As far as game design goes, I’ve decided that my focuses are in casual games, visual novels, and mobile apps. I always wanted to design a hit game for a major console system, but I feel that at this time in my life, this is where my interests and skills most strongly lie. I will be taking a number of steps to develop myself to follow this path.

I still plan on  doing writing, as that tends to get bills paid, and it’s great exercise besides. I’m also working on getting the new site design up and running. Once I get started it shouldn’t take me much more than two days.

I’m also pretty fed up with Facebook, at this point. It’s a total time sink, aside from when I get to use it to push my content. I’m trying to determine how to split out my posts, but I’m thinking making Kaali Billi Innovation’s page live and linking it to this blog would be good. Or maybe even a different blog, we’ll see. I’ve been thinking about changing the domain name I have registered for here. I’ll come up with some actions  for that and let you know.

Lastly, I’m going to lose 10 pounds this month.

I Won a Prize Today!

Thanks to you guys’ support, I won the Bronze prize today for Viewshound’s cash pool on Thursday! Someone has suggested (ironically) that I make a donation of the extra money that I now have that I might not have before, but I think I’ll put it into savings for now. That way, it can grow and I can help more people later.

Thanks again everyone!

Sliced Bread

A thought just occurred to me, one that I didn’t realize I had previously.

Sliced bread is not an invention. It’s an innovation. You can take something basic, add something to it, and voila. Awesome. That’s what innovation is all about.

Somalia

Hey there. Today I spent time promoting my blog entry about Somalia’s famine crisis, as it just got published over at Viewshound. Tonight I have my first truly solo trivia hosting gig, which should be fantastical. I need to make sure I have all my music together by 8. Gonna work on that and dishes when I get home. Probably toss some more stuff out.

Planning on going to a few anime conventions this year. Still need to find a new roommate as the one I had pretty much lined up and raring to go fell through (couldn’t ever meet up with her).

We’ll see what the future brings.

If A Man Can’t Hold His Own in a Conversation…

Update: Corrected and clarified some things. This post was originally published August 1, 2011.

There’s a guy I am familiar with that’s constantly bemoaning black women being involved in interracial relationships, especially when it comes to being with white guys. He keeps throwing around the fact that he thinks it’s all for money or the privelege of class shift, or that it’s self-hating and he throws around the name Sarah Baartman.

I honestly wonder if this guy is just like the black women who gripe that we can’t find good men.
